Maybe it is time to "unsubscribe."

Recently, I found myself doing something incredibly ordinary...

Going through my email and pressing unsubscribe.

Again.

...And again.

........And again.

Years of subscriptions had accumulated.

Stores I bought something from once.

Organizations I no longer followed.

Newsletters I never opened.

Companies I did not even remember giving my email address to.

And as I watched my inbox slowly become quieter, I started thinking:

How many other things have I remained subscribed to simply because I never intentionally unsubscribed?

We Subscribe to More Than Emails

Somewhere along the way, we subscribe to expectations.

I should keep everyone happy.

I should be further along by now.

My marriage should look like this.

My kids should behave like that.

A good woman would handle this better.

A good Christian wouldn't struggle with this.

I should forgive faster.

I should stop thinking about it.

I should be able to fix this.

Maybe no one ever asked whether we wanted those subscriptions.

We just absorbed them.

From our families.

Our culture.

Social media.

Relationships.

Church experiences.

Past versions of ourselves.

And then we wonder why our internal inbox feels so crowded.

You Are Allowed to Reevaluate

Growth sometimes requires looking at what we have been carrying and asking:

Do I still believe this?

Does this expectation actually align with my values?

Is this responsibility really mine?

Is this helping me become healthier—or simply keeping me exhausted?

That does not mean abandoning responsibility.

It means becoming intentional about what deserves space in your life.

Some Things Need to Go

Maybe you need to unsubscribe from the belief that everyone needs to understand your choices.

Maybe you need to unsubscribe from constantly comparing your healing to someone else's.

Maybe it is the expectation that you need to make a major relationship decision immediately.

Maybe it is the idea that being strong means never asking for help.

Maybe it is believing someone else's behavior determines your worth.

Or maybe it is simply the version of you who thought she had to hold everything together for everyone.

You can appreciate what something once taught you and still decide that it no longer belongs in this season.

What Do You Want to Stay Subscribed To?

This is the part we sometimes forget.

Removing things creates room.

What deserves that room?

Peace?

Honesty?

Faith?

Connection?

Healthy relationships?

Curiosity?

Joy?

Rest?

Purpose?

Growth?

Your values can become a filter.

Instead of asking what everyone else expects, begin asking:

Does this move me toward the person I want to become?

Clean Out More Than Your Inbox

There was something strangely satisfying about watching all those unnecessary emails disappear.

Maybe our lives need that kind of audit occasionally too.

Not everything we once agreed to deserves lifetime access to us.

Not every expectation deserves a permanent place in our minds.

Not every version of ourselves needs to come with us.

So maybe today, find one thing you are ready to unsubscribe from.

And then ask yourself:

What do I want to make room for instead?
